So, we have been reading the Book of Mormon as a family since January. The kids were challenged to read it in primary and it's the first time we've been consistent and made it completely through 1 Nephi. Hurray for us! However, if your kids are unfamiliar with the Book of Mormon and all it's glory, some of it is a little overwhelming. And my kids are getting a little worried about eternal damnation, the great and abomidable church, etc.
So on the way home from school, this was my conversation with Sarah.
Sarah: Mom, I'm worried about Liliana.
Mom: Why?
Sarah: Well, she's a Jew.
Mom: (silently) Ohhhhh no. I do NOT like where this is heading...
Sarah: She doesn't believe in Jesus and she doesn't like to go to church.
Mom: Well, sometimes people are confused and we can just nicely tell them what we believe. Then maybe they will change their minds. But even if they don't, we can be friends with them and be nice.
Sarah: What if I tell her about the Second Coming and that if she doesn't believe in Jesus and repent she's going to be in hell? (We read 2 Nephi 9 this morning)
Mom: (silently) I wonder if they suspend 3rd graders for religious intolerance?
Mom: Honey, maybe you shouldn't talk about Jesus at school.

Shannon, that was really fun to read, so thanks for sharing. I'm sure Sarah will love reading and laughing about this someday.
Great job on the reading! We really need to get our act together. I would have no idea how the respond to that conversation - but it makes me giggle!
Do you think they'd publish this one in the FRIEND magazine? That is so funny.
