baby steps...

In September, Jeanette and I started walking. A short time later, her friend suggested (challenged?!) us to run a 5k with her in December. I had been thinking running would be fun again, so I was thrilled to have someone to do it with. Jeanette found a great running program titled, "Couch to 5k in 8 weeks" which couldn't have been a better description of my cardiovascular state. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
And it worked! It was so easy to gradually increase our length and endurance. The payoff was finishing my first ever organized run with a time of 31:12. Increased length, endurance, and speed will come later. I'm just glad I started!

Can't start without stretching!

(That's Jeanette, me, Jamie, and half of Nikki)

Before the race at the start line.

Jamie shows us how she'll watch tv if she gets bored. She took a lot of crap for the old school headphones...

Jeanette and I post race with our "anti-inflamatory" sports drink. I was glad to know I wouldn't burst into flames while drinking it. Then I realized it probably meant my joints wouldn't swell. Hey, I had just run a 5k, my brain was a little out there...

You can't complain running along the boardwalk of Venice & Santa Monica on a beautiful, crisp December morning. I will make this a regular part of my life.

shannon, congratulations! that's so great! i really would like to get into that again (really i only did it, uh, twice), because i can only stand running if i know i'm working towards something. running just for the sake of running? no way. anyway, many congratulations and props for doing it!

Virginia is still running and has gotten to the point where she loves it and really looks forward to it. It also helps her tremendously in dealing with the stress of living...
